A Vaughn Moment

Before I share this story that is all of a paragraph, let me start from the beginning. Our neighbors across the street have a little boy, Andrew, who is 5. In Vaughn's eyes, the sun rises and sets in Andrew. He is just the coolest kid on the planet to Vaughn. We are very fortunate to be neighbors to such a nice family as well as one with kids Vaughn's age.

Andrew has been racing dirt bikes for the past 2 years and last year they built a really cool dirt bike track on their property. Last summer we went to one of Andrew's races. Vaughn was INSTANTLY in awe of the whole sport. We even took Mya. I wasn't sure how'd she'd do with all of the loud noise, but she laughed HYSTERICALLY the entire time we were there! It was so funny! So after that race Vaughn decided he wanted to race dirt bikes too and in November when Jeff and I asked him what he was going to ask Santa for he said a dirt bike. Well, he actually said 100 of them but we were able to talk him into 1:)

Christmas comes, and we seriously thought about it. We looked online for deals and to get a good one it was just going to be too expensive. Our other reason not to was b/c he has never drove a dirt bike. So, we thought if he could practice on Andrew's this summer then maybe next year Santa could grant Vaughn's request. We decide to get him a few little dirt bikes since he loves to make "tracks" out of anything he can get his hands on. Even his food he makes tracks out of! He was thrilled with them. No mention of disappointment when the "real" dirt bike wasn't left for him. There was a special note from Santa explaining that if he practiced really hard over the summer then as long as Santa thought he was ready he would bring him a dirt bike if he still wanted that next year.

Fast forward to a month later. Vaughn informs me as I was cleaning up dinner that Santa messed up. I said, "How is that?" He said, "He brought me little dirt bikes and not a big one to ride on!" I told him to be more specific with Santa next year and maybe he'd bring the right thing! :) Kids are so funny!!!
